Multi-Value Fields (pointing to/embedding other pieces of content; flexible content components)

Some data fields on various content types may allow for multiple values.  Common use cases include:

  • "Entity Reference" fields.  This means you can associate the current piece of content being edited with existing pieces of content, or even new ones.  The association can be used to embed the other piece(s) of content, link to other pieces of content, or embed specific subsets of data from the other content.  One such example might be to curate content for related content or "you might also be interested in" callouts.
  • Adding mulitple images for a slideshow or photo gallery
  • Adding multiple content components [aka Drupal paragraph bundles] in an arbitrary order (such as accordion, textarea, video, slideshow, textarea with photo, or more)

In such cases, the field will display an "Add Another" button, and the drag-and-drop icon next to each element so that you can set a display/sort order as indicated in the screenshot below.

For entity references/content curation fields, you'll also see links/buttons to ADD EXISTING NODE.  In some cases, you can even associate the current piece of content to a brand new one (and create the new one on demand) by clicking the CREATE [CONTENT TYPE] or ADD NEW NODE link/button.  As indicated in the two example screenshots below.
